“Notebook size” depends on the standard you use. Globally, the ISO A/B series dominates (A4, A5, B5); in the U.S., common sizes are Letter (8.5″×11″), Composition (7.5″×9.75″), and Junior Legal (5″×8″).

ISO 216 (A/B series, metric world)

• The most used sheet is A4 = 210 × 297 mm (≈ 8.27″ × 11.7″).

• Popular notebook cuts: A5 = 148 × 210 mm, A6 = 105 × 148 mm, and B5 = 176 × 250 mm (a touch wider/taller than A5, favored in East Asia). 

U.S. sizes (inch-based)

• Letter = 8.5″ × 11″ (typical spiral & bound pads).

• Other notebook-friendly formats you’ll meet: Junior Legal = 5″ × 8″ (compact tear-off pads) and Composition = 7.5″ × 9.75″ (stitched, marble cover).

• Sheet size vs. cover size: product pages usually list the inner paper size; covers can extend 3–5 mm for protection.

• Ruling doesn’t change size: wide/college/narrow rule refers to line spacing, not page dimensions.

• Paper weight (GSM): 70–80 gsm is cost-effective for school; 90–100 gsm reduces ghosting for fountain pens/markers.

• Binding & perforation: wire-bound is ideal for lay-flat notes; stitched (e.g., Composition) is sturdy; top-perforated pads favor quick tear-off.

• Regional mixes: For international teams, we often ship A5/B5 alongside Letter to match local preferences.

Q: Is B5 bigger than A5?
A: Yes. B5 = 176 × 250 mm vs A5 = 148 × 210 mm, so B5 is both wider and taller. 

Q: Why does my A4 notebook feel close to U.S. Letter?
A: They’re similar; A4 is slightly taller and narrower (210 × 297 mm vs 8.5″ × 11″). 

Q: What about “Executive” size?
A: In the U.S., Executive paper exists, but everyday notebooks more commonly use Letter, Junior Legal, and Composition. If you need Executive for a matched set, tell us and we’ll source or customize.
