From production details to retail decisions

Founder Janey Liu entered the stationery industry in 1999 and began working in international trade in 2000. Her early work in pencil factories gave her hands-on experience with wood, leads, finishes, colour and packaging. In wooden-toy projects coordinated for a German company’s Shanghai office, she worked with factories on materials, construction and practical production. Later buying roles with UK importers RMS and RSW brought a retailer’s view of product selection, target cost and repeatable delivery.

Today she connects those perspectives when reviewing a buyer’s brief: will the material and construction suit the intended use, can the cost support the retail price, will the packaging work on the shelf, and can samples be translated into consistent production? These questions guide supplier matching, sampling and the decisions to settle before an order moves forward.

Her aim is to build a development partnership that understands each customer’s market, consumers, price points and purchasing habits more deeply over time.

Three areas of current strength

Coordinated green stationery with notebooks, a pencil case and desk accessories.

Stationery & coordinated collections

Paper products, writing instruments, stationery sets and Office & Home Office organization and accessories. We develop individual items and coordinated ranges for Back-to-School, Kids, Office & Home Office and fashion-led retail programs.

Arts and crafts products arranged as a retail range.

DIY / Arts & Crafts

Creative activities and craft products developed around the intended user, market, materials, presentation and project-specific requirements. We consider the product and its packaging together when reviewing a brief.

Coordinated green daisy bags, lunch bags and pencil cases.

Bags, cases & purses

Bags, pencil cases, pouches and related accessories that can stand alone or coordinate with stationery and gifting ranges through materials, colours, patterns and practical product details.

We also develop selected celebration, gifting and promotional products where they fit the customer’s brief. Our starting point is what your market needs, whether that is one product or a wider collection.

A PRODUCT IDEA IN PRACTICE

From a notebook idea to a coordinated retail option

In a previously published project example, a customer brought us an idea for a notebook with interchangeable letters. The work moved from a workable product design to gift-set and retail-display options, considering how the item would be presented and sold alongside its packaging.

This illustrates the development process; specifications, commercial terms and outcomes are agreed separately for each new project.

What a buyer can review

  • The notebook’s construction and how the letters are changed
  • Gift-set contents and packaging options
  • Display format, price position and sample requirements

We can discuss a comparable development approach around your own brief, with the product and presentation choices reviewed together.

Two ways to develop your next product or range

You have a design or specification

Green coordinated notebooks, desk storage, cases and stationery accessories.
Product details and coordinated accessories

Bring your artwork, specification or product direction. We review construction, materials, processes, target cost and packaging, match suitable manufacturing resources, and coordinate quotations, samples and agreed adjustments. Your approved design remains the reference as the project moves towards production.

You have an idea or theme

Colour, pattern and product coordination

Start with your target market, price level, theme or style direction. We can help with product selection, range planning, design development, colour and pattern coordination, materials, samples and packaging. We shape the scope around what you need, from a single item to a coordinated collection.

  1. 1
    Understand the brief
  2. 2
    Review product and cost options
  3. 3
    Develop and approve samples
  4. 4
    Coordinate production and delivery

Each stage is agreed around the product requirements and your launch plan.

Make the product work at your target cost

An attractive design needs a workable cost structure. We compare materials, construction, production methods, packaging, quantities and sourcing options to identify practical ways to improve cost competitiveness.

We explain the trade-offs so you can make an informed decision. Changes to agreed quality, specifications, safety, compliance or key functions require your approval.

Manufacturing capabilities & a long-standing partner network

We combine our own manufacturing capabilities with selected production partners. Some of Janey’s core supplier relationships span more than 15 years, with other long-standing relationships of more than 10 years. This experience supports supplier matching, communication and coordination across different product categories.

Our manufacturing capabilities and partner network include resources across China, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia. The suitable location and production facility are assessed for each project, taking account of the product, quantities, quality requirements and schedule.

We connect sampling, testing, packaging and production planning with your required shipment or delivery milestones, and raise potential issues early so the next steps are clear.

Quality & compliance support

Tell us your target market and buyer requirements early. We review the relevant factory, product and documentation needs as part of development and sourcing. Documents and authorization requirements are checked for the specific project.

Factory assessments & standards

We coordinate BSCI, SMETA (Sedex), FCCA and SCAN assessments. Other facility standards, including BRCGS Consumer Products, are reviewed against the required site and scope.

Material sourcing & traceability

Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)
EUDRTraceability & documentation

For applicable products, we offer FSC-certified sourcing options and EUDR-related traceability and documentation support. We check the product and order scope; FSC certification and EUDR requirements are assessed separately.

Project authorization

DisneyFAMA authorization support

We support Disney FAMA authorization requirements. The relevant facility, product and project scope are confirmed before production.

Product-specific certification

TÜV AUSTRIA OK compost HOME

OK compost HOME applies only to products covered by the relevant certification. We check the specific certificate, product scope and validity for the proposed item.

Product-specific testing & requirements

Materials, intended use, user age and destination market determine the requirements. Relevant areas may include:

FROM APPROVED SAMPLE TO RETAIL PRESENTATION

Delivery planning & retail-ready packaging

A product needs the right packaging, clear approvals and a workable schedule. We bring these decisions into development so your buying team can review them together.

Work backward from your required date

Coordinate production milestones with the project schedule.

Share your launch or warehouse arrival target. We review artwork and sample approvals, materials, testing, production, packaging, inspection and shipping as connected milestones.

We identify approval deadlines and dependencies, flag potential delays early and distinguish production completion, shipment departure and warehouse arrival when discussing the schedule.

Your brief: required date, destination, quantities and approval process.

Develop packaging for your sales channel

Packaging is considered alongside the product: protection and inserts, barcode and SKU matching, label information, hanging formats, gift boxes, PDQ displays and master cartons where relevant.

We coordinate the agreed format and artwork so the product, packaging and retail presentation work together. Requirements are reviewed for the specific market, channel and order.

Your brief: display format, labelling requirements and transport needs.

Milestones and packaging specifications are agreed for each project. Timing depends on approvals, materials, testing, production and shipping arrangements.

Questions buyers often ask

Are you a manufacturer or a sourcing partner?

We combine our own manufacturing capabilities with selected production partners. The suitable facility and the scope of our involvement depend on the product and project; we do not manufacture every category in-house.

Can we select existing products or develop our own range?

Both. Start with existing product directions, your artwork or specification, or an initial idea. We can help review product choices, materials, coordinated items and packaging around your market and target cost. The development scope is agreed for the project.

How are MOQ, sample timing and production lead time confirmed?

These depend on the product, materials, colours, processes, tooling, packaging and quantities. Share your requirements and timing so we can review suitable options and confirm the relevant terms.

Can you provide FSC options and EUDR-related documentation?

For applicable products, we can review FSC-certified sourcing options and EUDR-related traceability and documentation needs. We check the relevant scope for the product and order; an FSC certificate alone does not establish EUDR compliance.

Can you coordinate several product categories in one project?

Yes, where the categories fit the brief. We can coordinate product specifications, samples, packaging and production across suitable suppliers, helping your team review the range as a connected project.

What should we send for an initial project review?

A reference product, image, design or short idea is enough to start. Share the target market and sales channel, indicative quantity, price level and required date if available. We can then identify the most useful next step.

What are you developing next?

Tell us what you are developing, where it will be sold and the price range you are working toward. A finished design is welcome, but an initial idea or sourcing brief is enough to begin a useful discussion.
